Costs
Costs are always a factor in the search for a good surgeon. The lowest prices offered should probably make one think twice. The old adage “you get what you pay for” is tried and true. Cheap, in this line of work is not a word that insures successful results! For the most part, insurance does not cover plastic surgery for strictly appearance sake. If reconstruction is from the result of an accident or a birth defect then it is likely to be covered by insurance. In this day and age however, you must check with the insurance company before you make any decisions. As with any surgery there are risks involved. Reactions to medications and anesthesia’s, running the risk of infections, and scars healing properly are a few of the things that can go wrong. Precautions are taken to make sure the surgery does go well. You have to be willing to take these risks knowing that we live in an imperfect world and things happen. How badly do you want the changes you are looking for? With plastic surgery, more is not necessarily better. For instance, too tight or too frequent facelifts may create a distorted, unnatural look. The result may be worse than having no plastic surgery at all. Find a board certified surgeon with a vast experience in the plastic surgery. Search thoroughly, compare different plastic surgeons and speak to their former patients. It is somewhat more risky to have plastic surgery in a surgeon's office than in a hospital. If you are having an in-office plastic surgery, make sure that the facility is accredited by AAAASF (The American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities). Plastic surgery does not slow down the aging of the skin but may actually accelerate it.
